Master's degree in history "Applied history: society, environment, territory".
This course develops skills in the historical analysis of how societies function, past and present, and past in the present.
It aims to develop the ability to mobilize historical knowledge over the long term, in the service of understanding major societal issues.
The term "applied history" evokes a concern to bring history out of the academic realm, in response to the demand for history in many sectors of society today. It is part of a reflection on the role of history today. Students are involved in applied research programs run by our laboratories, focusing on a number of themes, including the following:
Space, which includes the history of the environment, the history of the economic development of territories, particularly mountain territories, the history of mobility and borders, and the history of urban societies.
The history of the body, health and sport: applied history involves, in particular, reflection on the construction of gender in modern and contemporary societies.
The history of work and the history of companies
The history of science and knowledge: the history of history, the history of books and printed matter, the history of technology.
Internships are a compulsory part of the course, which includes contacts with departmental and municipal archives, libraries and museums in the Isère department (Musée de la Révolution française, Musée de la Résistance, Musée Dauphinois, etc.).
