For four years now, a trans-disciplinary design workshop has been running within the Licence 3 Sciences Humaines Appliquées (SHA) program. It takes place throughout the academic year in a project structure, and is built around a commissioned a commission.
The theme for 2020/21 is alternative currencies (local currencies, complementary currencies) in mountain areas, in this case the Cairn.

Pedagogical process

To achieve this, students have access to an original teaching tool, thecollaborative workshopThe project is based on a cross-disciplinary approach, involving a variety of players: specialists in the fields of geography, history and philosophy, a communications designer, and a journalist to build the editorial statement and give concrete expression to the cross-disciplinary approach.

It covers themes related to mountain regions in partnership with labex ITTEM. The subject of mountains, with its global, cross-disciplinary nature and the multi-disciplinary approaches developed by several of the workshop leaders, is particularly well-suited to this approach.

This transdisciplinary approach built around the project calls for high level of personal involvement on the part of students and creates a team dynamic outside face-to-face teaching sessions. The use of a digital platform for remote collaborative work (Slack.com), which the students set up and run themselves, facilitates exchanges and information sharing within the groups throughout the workshop, as well as project follow-up for teachers outside synchronous meetings.

The schedule for this first term was somewhat disrupted, with face-to-face sessions starting and then switching to 100% distance learning, without however affecting the motivation of the students or the quality of their work.

Support in creativity methods and logistics

The partnership with the Promising program provides the necessary logistical and pedagogical support. L'support provided by a teacher from the Promising community (creativity and animation techniques) and the provision of a adapted work environment (MaCI halls) make the project run more smoothly.

Group-building moments (team-building) and cross-fertilization of ideas (design thinkingThese are alternated with periods of data collection and analysis by teachers in the humanities and social sciences, and periods of technical production with the support of professional skills (journalist, web designer).

First restitution

A first restitution took place on November 26, 2020 by videoconference in front of Olivier Truche, representative of the association, the teachers and bachelor's degree managers as well as the partners. The sixty students in the class identified a number of issues: Cairn's identity, inclusive tensions and aspirations, the internal workings of the association, territorial boundaries, Cairn's circulation...
All these elements will be explored and refined in the second half of the year.
