SHA (Applied Human Sciences) degree

The SHA bachelor's degree enables students to analyze the concrete changes taking place in the contemporary world, and the economic, social, political and cultural issues at stake. This multi-disciplinary course is based on the knowledge and methods of geography, history and philosophy.

These three core disciplines are complemented by law, economics and languages. (LV1 and LV2 compulsory, one subject course taught in English at each undergraduate level).
Through their ability to analyze complex phenomena, these disciplines provide elements for study and reflection on social and environmental relationships.

The courses are designed in common, content is mutually enriching, and methods converge in the service of critical analysis. For example, in the first year, you will study the relationship between society and culture through three problematics: in history, the relationship between freedom and servitude; in philosophy, the relationship between the media, the individual and social relations; and in geography, the relationship between societies, cultures and territories.

Training objectives

Multidisciplinarity aims to building cross-disciplinary skillswhich can be applied in a wide range of professional sectors, broadening the choice of outlets.
The bachelor's degree offers above all a theoretical approach, placing the human sciences at the service of an understanding of society and its evolution. The humanities courses provide a methodological approach and training in critical thinking and synthesis.
It also prepares students, progressively over the three years, for their professional integration. This preparation involves a participative observation internship, followed by an internship report.
The bachelor's degree therefore aims to develop a critical mind open to the contemporary world and its challenges, and to enable students to pursue their training in line with their personal projects.

The organization of teaching

The 3 years of the bachelor's degree are designed to promote the progressive acquisition of knowledge and skills:
  • In the first year (L1), the various disciplines are structured around a common theme: society and culture. Skills covered include: analysis, synthesis, writing techniques, documentary research, information and communication technologies for teaching (ICTE), mastery of two foreign languages (English and a second language, chosen from German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese or Russian).
  • The second year (L2) extends the multi-disciplinary approach, with the introduction of courses in law and economics, and a more in-depth study of the theme of contemporary change, based on the following theme: society and territories. The skills acquired in L1 are consolidated, and new skills are acquired in communication and public speaking.
  • The third year (L3) is a year of specialization based on a common theme: society and work. This year includes an introduction to the business world, with courses in private law, labor economics and management. Options are suggested according to your personal project (sociology, management, regional planning, documentation). In addition to deepening your knowledge and consolidating your skills, you will also acquire new skills in statistics.

One of the special features of this program is the gradual development of your personal project, based on multi-disciplinary skills, within the framework of a specific UE during the three years of the bachelor's degree.
At the end of L3, a "Skills Assessment" seminar is organized to identify and enhance the skills acquired with a view to professional integration or further study (master's level access).
