The Alpine Philosophy Society is pleased to offer a series of five lectures on Spinoza's Ethics by Philippe Saltel, professor emeritus of moral philosophy at the UFR ARSH (UGA).
We cannot ignore the question of how we conduct our lives.
In the contemporary fog, reference is often made to a 17th-century philosopher.e century, Spinoza. Let us trust our reason: this could sum up his intention, that of his life, that of his philosophy. This intention is expressed in a demanding theory, which is based on what may seem like detours, a theory of reality, or of knowledge.
These are the prerequisites for an original answer to the question of happiness, which Spinoza presents in his masterpiece, Ethics.
This series of five lectures offers us an explanation and invites us to let "the prince of philosophers," as Deleuze called him, guide us by the hand toward happiness.
Philippe Saltel is the author of Spinoza at the Beach, to be published in 2026 by Dunod.

 Sessions - Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.
